Millions of US, a sponsor of the SLCC 2007 has an interesting contest as it pertains to the SLCC this year. Along with sponsorships, sponsors are given complementary registration slots, slots that Millions of Us would like to give to residents who submit an essay about their contributions to Second Life (check out the announcement on their blog). While I think this is a cool way to utilize their sponsorship, be warned, this contest only covers registration, flight, hotel, etc, you are going to have to pay for.

Much kudos to two two of my dear friends and the two who have really been the crux of the SLCC talk about SLCC, one sock days, and other issues in Second Life on Second Life Insider’s Podcast “On The Inside, Episode 14“. It’s fun listen!

As the SLCC approaches, several announcements have been made about the SLCC. The first answers some growing concerns about what behavior or what people are to expect from the SLCC, a SLCC Community Standards Agreement outlines what is to be expected while being at the SLCC (which is fun and respect! These aren’t the forums people!) My co-tract leader of the Social Tract shot out a call list for the tract SL and the media, definitely check it out and see if you fit the bill! Third has been an announcement for those wishing to cover the SLCC from a press or journalistic angle. There have been many requests for the Future United, Inc. from the media, and this Journalistic Credentials and announcement is a great resource to understand what the press has resources to from the Future United, Inc. Two months until the SLCC happens, and things are just ramping up!

Nethermind has posted on the SLCC Blog that Flaming Moe, one of the well known live musicians in Second Life, has taken an opportunity to play saxophone on an European cruse ship for the next six months (way to go Moe!) Moe is a very talented Saxophonist and I was really interested in hearing the collaboration between him and DJ Doubledown during the Masquerade on Saturday night. It is a loss not to have Flaming Moe at the Second Life Community Convention this year, I’m really happy for any person that is able to get a great opportunity musically!

This also causes a matter of an open slot in the live musician performances for the SLCC. As Nethermind writes:

If you are an instrumentalist, able to read music and accompany other musicians, and if you’d like to join the other 29 musicians who will be performing for an international audience both in Chicago and online, please submit your audition MP3 as follows:
1. Audition MP3s should be no longer than 10 minutes (9 MB) in length; mixing a variety of selections within that single MP3 is encouraged.
2. All MP3s must be emailed to Nethermind Bliss: nethermind [at] gmail [dot] com no later than JULY 4th, 2007 at midnight SLT.
3. Please include your SL name with your audition and the best email address by which to reach you.

Announcement of the new musician will be made on the SLCC Blog no later than midnight PDT on July 5th, 2007. For all of the information, check out the post on the Official Second Life Community Convention Blog.

The clock ticks closer and closer to the Second Life Community Convention, which just means that while things have been crazy in setting up the conference, the next two months, everything gets kicked into overdrive! The Second Life Community Convention ‘07 is going to be bigger, and more complex than last year, rather than just 1 tract, it is going to have 4 tracts, complete with DJ’s, Live Musicians, and a Masquerade Ball. This year, I haven’t a clue what to expect, but it’s just wild craziness, (see the evidence from last year)! My job has really been a lot of the background work (lets just say dealing with the IRS is not fun!), and co-run the Social Tract (which Nethermind has been doing so much more of an awesome job then I have!)

This year, SLCC happens in Chicago, IL, and there are plenty of registration spaces left (so go, register, come and enjoy by clicking here!) and it is all taking place at the Hilton Hotel (to get a room at the Hilton, click here!). Also in Second Life there are in world Kiosk and information booths (poke myself or one of the other organizers for one), and plans for an in world conference and activities (although they are unknown at the moment).
